Introducing hackathons
Proposal of a new open classroom to teach the art & science of hackathons
The image above is from the Openki Hackathon in 2021. We can learn a lot from this community, who even runs organizer exchanges similar to Hack:Org:X. The following proposal for a new course in hackathons was just posted in the Openki Zürich site:
We are a new group of people passionate about hackathons, hackdays, hacknights, tech sprints, data jams, and other kinds of time-limited collaborative workshops with a team-building component.
At our meetings, you get to hear about research projects supporting students and refugees in their social and economic integration, get insights from hackathons across the country, learn the latest issues and trends in the area. Take a look at hackorgx.dribdat.cc to see what we are doing.
Some of the people in this community are experienced event organizers, others are just data geeks who love to share notes with fellow learners. We generally think hackathons are a great way to "hack" together across a range of learning objectives, a perfect fit for the age of A.I. - and a great venue to exchange critical opinions on tech topics.
If you would like to gain some sociological, philosophical, or technical perspective, join us for an introductory hackathons class. It will be a practical experience, i.e. run as a hackathon. As an outcome, you will learn about the hottest events in your area, what it takes to succeed as a hackathon participant, as well as get some lessons in running your own.
🗨 Is this something you would like to attend / promote / help with? Do you know of similar or related learning opportunities?
ℹ️ The open source platform OpenKI was featured at DINAcon 2018, there is more background here. If we do this course this September, we can take part in the Zürich Lernt program.
