Energy Data Hackdays
Pushing curves on the energy transition since 2016
Fundamental changes are on the horizon in the energy sector. The end of the service life of nuclear power plants calls for the development of diverse, regenerative and decentralized energy technologies, such as geothermal energy, wind and solar technology. Digital tools are being used in more and more areas in order to optimize and stabilize the interplay between energy supply, use and storage. Hackathons bring together energy experts, analysts, data scientists, programmers, students and interested people from all disciplines to work together with team spirit and enthusiasm on solutions to concrete problems. Take part! We are happy to announce that after the good experiences and results of the Hackdays, the next edition of the Energy Data Hackdays will take place this September in Brugg-Windisch with existing and new partners - committed to tradition.

GLAMhack
Switzerland's Open Cultural Data hackathon series
The Swiss OpenGLAM working group unites cultural institutions, software developers, digital humanists, artists, Wikipedians, and other enthusiasts with a shared goal of advancing openness among galleries, libraries, archives, and museums (GLAM). Within the collaborative environment of the GLAMhack, we engage in joint experimentation, innovation, and artistic creation, exploring the realms of cultural content and digital tools. Our focus spans research initiatives, web and mobile applications, Wikipedia, artistic creations, and a variety of other use cases aimed at fostering openness and creativity.

Planning a Hackathon? Know a Hackathon coming up? List the event in our new database!
Opendata.ch is one of the implementation partners in this project. We are helping to ensure that open hackathons are visible, accessible, and as inclusive as possible. Open data is a topic of global interest, and hopefully helps to open door to more people who wish to contribute to transparent, innovative and sustainable projects. Furthermore, we aim to archive the data that hackathons generate under open licenses.

HTH Vol. 4
Reporting on the latest edition of Hack the Hackathon
An unconference series and interdisciplinary community exploring scientific collaboration, learning, and civic engagement through hackathons.
HTH is a:
- Hybrid series supporting individuals worldwide!
- Come together and work on projects for the broader hackathon organizer and researcher community
- Learn about the various types of hackathons we all represent
- Learn new ways of hosting and researching hackathons
- Make connections with organizers, researchers, events, communities, and more
- HtH alternates between the Americas and Europe each year (so far)
We are collaborating already with several people through this, such as by using the survey template that has been developed at HTH4 (published on Zenodo) in our own research projects. The team is now planning the next edition to take place in Copenhagen on Oct 20-24, 2025:
Hack the Hackathon 5 will be held as a hybrid meeting in at the Copenhagen University Library, Copenhagen, Denmark and online.

Open Data Day
This year's thematic focus: Open Data to Tackle the Polycrisis
Celebrating without pomp or fanfare, we acknowledge the hard work of our peers. Running our Hack:Org:X meeting this week and talking about the work and prospects of the Open Data community is our small contribution to this important occasion.
Open Data Day (ODD) is an annual celebration of open data all over the world. Groups from likely every country create local events on the day where they will use open data in their communities. ODD is maintained and supported by the Open Knowledge Foundation (OKFN) through the Open Knowledge Network, whose chapter in Switzerland we support. As a way to increase the representation of different cultures, we offer the opportunity for organisations to host an Open Data Day event on the best date within a one-week period.

Technai
Greek: 'art, skill, craft'; the plural of 'techne', an ancient philosophical concept that refers to making or doing.
What kind of work do hackathons represent? We generally aim to build a platform that connects "makers" - digital artisans, creators, and skilled professionals, with community members or "challenge owners" seeking unique services or products. In this we aim at promoting collaboration, sharing knowledge, supporting the idea of serendipity and crafty prototyping while incorporating modern technology. What would it mean to encourage sustainable practices and fair trade principles, ensuring inclusivity and accessibility for all participants?
Our mission: create a format that enriches local economies and fosters a deeper appreciation for the skill and artistry of engaged people around the world. Discuss!
Oleg and Derrick would like to share some new features in Dribdat v88 that are moving in this direction by helping to match the "haves" and "wants" of contributors and challenges.
